Before even getting into where I personally stand on this debate lets realize something. They are not called Pit bulls they are Bull Terriers. The nickname that stuck being the Pit bull didnt come to play until humans started using the breed for dog fights for money and bragging rights. This dog used to be known as Americas number one dog with "the nanny dog" being the nickname. Know this breed is constantly on death row, flooding dog kennels, being trained by people to attack other people, and as a result being put down.What the hell happened? People are not realizing that statistics show that small breeds like the chew-wawa actually top the charts on dog bites. The reason Pit bulls can potentially result in death is because they have the natural muscle to do so. I read an article on a Pit bull who pretty much tore the face off a man but before being put down it was discovered the dog was being given steroids. Many people are not committing to take care of these dogs but keeping them because of the intimidating muscular look this breed has in order to show off. These dogs behave like any other dog but have muscle to take things down. People are also buying this dog as a guard dog and over breeding this breed resulting in neglect towards certain puppies. There are many theories about why these dogs bite without warning, one of which being that because this dog was created to be loyal to humans and fight other dogs theirs a mental high from attacking, others being the breed is crazy, and that its the humans fault. Personally though my girlfriend will never let me own a pit bull I believe the only people who should have a say on the fait of the pit bull breed are those who had personal experience with a pit bull. I also believe people who come up with theories need to shut there mouth until they have owned a pit bull, I believe any dog can bite at random but this breed has the muscle to kill, Bad owners are primarily the cause of the attacks, I don't necessarily like the idea that if a bad owner is the cause of a pit bull attack the procedier is to put the dog down and arrest the owner. I dont like the idea of a dog being put down when he thought what he/she was doing wasn't an issue due to the behavior and training of the owner, lastly i believe people always need to put there hate towards something especially if they don't understand it. People where scared of the rottweiler and got over it then it was the German Shepperd and now the pit bull. I cant lie there was a pit bull that scared the crap out of me while i was walking. It was running extremely fast and barking but i got curious and walked towards the fence, bottom line i pet it and it was a nice dog just loud for no reason.
